Dumeril's Boas

The Dumeril’s Boa is one of the most well represented animals in captive reptile collections around the world.  They are pleasant, undemanding captives that are extremely forgiving of keeper and environmental errors.  Dumeril’s are beautifully colored in a variety of earth tones and have an eye pleasing and variable pattern.  Unfortunately, the species was long ago written off as a “pet” reptile and relatively little emphasis has been given to selectively breeding this species for color and pattern .  While they do make excellent pets, their value as legitimate projects should be reassessed.  Herpetoculturists have long missed out on the incredible potential of these boas and we are seeking to change that.  We are focusing our efforts on Dumeril projects that maximize natural highlight colorations (pink, orange, red, etc) and also Dumeril projects with exceptionally clean and clear and/or unique patterns.  Caring for these animals is a joy, and we predict that this fantastic boa will once again see a resurgence in popularity.

Neat striped male found at a show.

Incredibly pink subadult female.

Big plans for her

Aberrant patterned male. Almost all Dumeril's exhibiting this pattern variation are males.

Nice pink juvenile with a great pattern

Adult Harding line female

Adult Harding line male in his "dark" phase

The white really stands out on this girl from last year

Baby male pink Dumerils

I'm hopeful he can retain some of this color, but I love the pattern either way

An unusual shade of pink

This female was the pinkist baby I had ever seen. Now she is the pinkiest subadult I have ever seen at 4.5 feet here.

Yearling aberrant male.
